Castor oil hair loss treatment has been used as a natural remedy for a long time. It is extracted from the seeds of the ricinus communic plant and is widely used as a laxative.
How effective is castor oil hair loss treatment?
It possesses strong anti-bacterial, anti-viral,anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties which are believed to help boost scalp health affected by conditions like dandruff. These properties make the oil a popular treatment for dermatosis and other fungal infections. When
applied on a regular basis, the castor oil boosts blood circulation which in turn flushes out the toxins found in hair follicles. Castor oil is a rich source of omega 6 fatty acids and vitamin E which nourishes your follicles while also strengthening your roots and hair shafts. The fatty acids help reduce yeast levels along the hair follicles which cause inflammation and allows them to function optimally. When unhealthy hair starts to thin out, castor oil helps condition them and gets rid of issues like hair- splitting and breakage.
But the biggest reason for castor oil’s effectiveness in treating hair loss and baldness or alopecia is the presence of ricinoleic acid which helps to boost the production of prostaglandin which promotes hair growth.
Who should not use it?
Anyone who is sensitive to castor oil, just as with any other natural
oil, may experience irritation and other side effects and should avoid castor oil. It is advisable to consult a doctor before you embark on any kind of hair treatment.
Castor oil has been marketed as a treatment for dry scalp and other
conditions and claims that castor oil can accelerate hair growth three
to five times the normal rate, are not backed by scientific evidence and is purely anecdotal as hair follicles grow only about a centimeter or half an inch per month. Dermatologist and hair specialists concur on this point.
